Collagen - Lasik Term and Glossary

In ophthalmology, collagen refers to the protein fibrils within the corneal tissue that help sustain its shape. Gentle heating of the collagen fibrils by a Holmium or other type of "hot" laser can cause them to shrink and thereby change the shape of the cornea to the desired curvature needed to correct a refractive disorder.
