Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) - Lasik Term and Glossary

The now-approved refractive eye surgery procedure that employs a computer-controlled Excimer Laser System to sculpt by ablation the central corneal zone, or visual axis, to change its shape in order to correct mild to moderate cases of nearsightedness. Use of the Excimer Laser for this application is governed by restrictions set forth by the FDA in granting approval for the system.
